After Max Verstappen and André Rieu, Emma Kok now also has her own tulip: ‘Symbol of perseverance, inspiration, and joy’
Yesterday, January 14, Emma Kok ceremoniously named her own tulip, Tulipa ‘Emma Kok’. It is a warm, dark pink single-flowered tulip with a subtle lilac glow.
With this new tulip, Dutch growers honor the singer for her music, strength, and positive aura.
As a preview for Tulip Day in Amsterdam, Emma surprised passersby at the Vrijthof with colorful tulips.
The Royal General Association for Flower Bulb Culture (KAVB) in Hillegom is responsible for the official registration of Tulipa ‘Emma Kok’ in the International Cultivar Register of Tulip Names, thereby permanently linking the singer's name to this unique Dutch tulip.
Emma Kok (born March 12, 2008) is a talented Dutch singer from Kerkrade, who became known by winning The Voice Kids (2021) and her viral performances with violinist André Rieu, especially her rendition of "Voila," which received millions of views worldwide. She is also known for her brave openness about her chronic illness, gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), and started a solo career in 2025 with a theater tour.
By the way, did you know that ...
400 growers in the Netherlands produce 3 billion tulips for vases each year.
Cut flower tulips are mainly grown under glass from November to May.
Germany is the largest buyer of Dutch tulips.
Thanks to solar energy, geothermal heat, and rainwater use, the production of cut tulips is becoming increasingly CO₂-neutral.
In the glass cultivation of tulips, crop protection agents are usually not used.
Tulips come in an infinite variety of flower colors – only blue and pure black are still missing.
Tulips also differ in flower shape. In addition to single and double varieties, there are also fringed, parrot, or lily-shaped tulips, for example.
Many double tulip varieties not only have many petals but also smell wonderful.
