Allium Ostara
3 bulbs for € 7.25
Another new variety, but quite unique! Ostara is a cross between Allium karataviense and Allium atropurpureum.
Beautiful large round flower with an intense purple-red color on a relatively short sturdy stem. This makes it very nice for a large pot.
Garden tip: Ornamental onions not only have the advantage of blooming beautifully with striking round or hanging clusters of star-shaped or bell-shaped flowers. Often, the faded flowers and/or seed pods remain decorative as well. Additionally, they are very easy to combine with perennials, ornamental grasses, or other flower bulbs. It is actually best to use them in combinations because if there is one disadvantage to these plants, it is that the leaves quickly become unsightly. Therefore, plant them among various ground covers or perennials (Hosta, Heuchera, Sedum) and ornamental grasses.
The best planting time for Allium bulbs is from October to mid-December in a sunny open location. Planting a bit later is also possible, but a newly planted bulb that is not yet rooted is more sensitive to frost than a bulb that is already rooted. If you planted late and frost is coming, give the bulbs an extra protective layer in the form of a layer of leaves.
