A bit earlier and lower than the classic varieties.

The roots of the emperor crown originate in Turkey, the southeast and west of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Kashmir mountains. But halfway through the sixteenth century, the emperor crown came to Europe, and botanist Carolus Clusius planted the first emperor crowns in Leiden. The royal flower bulb was already hugely popular then, and from 1610 they have been depicted in countless paintings and tiles.
