Fritillaria Raddeana
1 bulb for € 7.10
Beautiful new and fairly exclusive species with large light green-yellow flowers on a dark stem.
A bit earlier and lower than the classic varieties.
Plant slightly tilted in the ground so that water does not stand in the cavity. Plant at least 15 cm deep.
Humus-rich soil, preferably drained.
Because the bulbs have no skin, they are vulnerable. Handle them carefully and plant them directly in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Plant them in the autumn in nutrient-rich, loose, and humus-rich soil that is well-draining. Clay soil needs extra sand. The emperor crown prefers a spot in full sun but does not like wet feet.
The roots of the emperor crown originate in Turkey, the southeast and west of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Kashmir mountains. But halfway through the sixteenth century, the emperor crown came to Europe, and botanist Carolus Clusius planted the first emperor crowns in Leiden. The royal flower bulb was already hugely popular then, and from 1610 they have been depicted in countless paintings and tiles.
