Iris flowers can be divided into bulbous irises, rhizomatous irises, and marsh plants. Bulbous irises are planted in the fall before the frost, preferably in dry, well-draining soil at a depth of 6 to 8 centimeters. The genus Iris was named after the Greek goddess of the rainbow, referring to the very diverse colors that the flowers have.
They are not only super beautiful in the garden but also very suitable as cut flowers. With these tips, they will last long in the vase:
- Always use clean vases. Fill them with cold tap water, mixed with the right dosage of cut flower food for longer durability. Cut about 2 cm off the stem at an angle just before placing the flowers in the vase. Do this with a sharp knife. Always remove excess leaves.
- Place them in a cool spot. In a warm room or in the sun, they will bloom faster.
