Liatris, also known as Blazing Star, Button Snake Root, or Gayfeather, is a genus in the aster family (Asteraceae or Compositae). There are an estimated thirty different species of Liatris. The plant is naturally found in North America and parts of Canada. In our climate, the Blazing Star is perfect to use as a garden plant. These flower spikes have a unique flowering pattern, as they open from top to bottom. The leaves on the sturdy, tall stems are lance-shaped and have a grass-like appearance.
