Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) Elsa
Price per piece: € 9.60
Amaryllis Elsa has a striking two-colored flower. Bright white, combined with vibrant red flames.
Name and origin of Hippeastrum:
The genus is native to tropical regions of the Caribbean and Mexico, but especially South America. Originally, it comes from East Brazil.
In the past, it was part of the genus Amaryllis and that is why it is still incorrectly referred to as Amaryllis. But no worries, we also simply call it amaryllis. It just sounds nicer than Hippeastrum…
The name Hippeastrum is actually a Latinized Greek term for “knight star,” hippeus means knight or horseman and astron means star. William Herbert named the Hippeastrum in 1821.
Plant the bulbs in good potting soil in a pot that is large enough so that you have at least 4 cm from the bulb to the edge of the pot.
Plant the bulb with about 2/3 of the bulb in the ground; the neck of the bulb should remain above the soil.
Amaryllis does not require much care. Water the bulb regularly, turn the pot regularly to ensure that the flower stems grow straight, and provide a nice light spot in the house.
Depending on the variety, the bulb will bloom within 6 to 8 weeks and will last for 3 to 6 weeks.
