Beautiful large-flowered red Crocosmia (syn. Montbretia). Blooms in summer, also suitable as a cut flower. It is a very exuberant summer bloomer with a flower stem that beautifully bends at the top where the funnel-shaped flowers are.
Applications: borders, beds, wildflower gardens.
This species is reasonably winter-hardy so the bulb can remain in the ground, you can always cover it with a layer of leaves or mulch.
If the bulbs of Crocosmia have become too large, you can divide it. New bulbs form on the old bulbs. Dig up the clump and divide it in the spring.
The soil should be well-draining, otherwise the bulbs of Crocosmia 'Lucifer' will rot in the winter.
It originally comes from South Africa and was formerly known by the old name Montbretia.
The name Crocosmia comes from the Greek krokos: saffron and osme: scent, this is a reference to the strong scent of saffron when the dried flowers are placed in warm water.
