Dahlia Verrone's Obsidian is a striking star-shaped Dahlia of the Honka type with deep dark red flowers that appear almost black, and a bright yellow center, making it look like small stars are blooming in the garden.
This dahlia is loved for its unique color and shape, attracts pollinators, is good as a cut flower, and creates beautiful contrasts in the border with its dark shades.
The grower is Roland Verrone (US), a renowned American dahlia breeder from Yelm, Washington, known for developing popular varieties such as ‘Verrone's Obsidian’, which first bloomed in 2007 and quickly became popular due to its dark, star-shaped flowers.
The Dahlia is a tuberous crop originally from Mexico that was brought from America to Europe around 1800. Here, the petal bulb was named after the Swedish botanist Andreas Dahl.
