Fritillaria Persica Ivory Bells
1 bulb for € 7.40
This is a green-white mutant of the Persica. It remains beautiful for a long time after blooming due to the seed pods. The flowers change from greenish to cream.
Fritillaria Persica Ivory Bells is beautiful when planted in combination with the classic Fritillaria Persica or other purple flowers/plants.
Tip: it is advisable to plant the bulbs on their side, lying down, to prevent water from penetrating the hollow top and causing rot.
The roots of the imperial crown lie in Turkey, the southeast and west of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Kashmir mountains. But halfway through the sixteenth century, the imperial crown came to Europe, and botanist Carolus Clusius planted the first imperial crowns in Leiden. The royal bulb was already hugely popular, and from 1610 they have been depicted in countless paintings and tiles.
In painting, Fritillarias became known thanks to Vincent Van Gogh, who created the painting “Fritillaires, couronne impériale dans un vase de cuivre” in 1886. The painting can be admired at the musée d’Orsay.
