Popular name Madonna lily or Saint Joseph's lily. Import
A very special but hard-to-find bulb! Candidum means: blindingly white, so it is no wonder that this wonderfully fragrant lily was associated with many religious festivals or used for decorating churches.
It has also been used medicinally for centuries. The summer-flowering (July-August) bulb has lance-shaped leaves distributed along the flower stem and up to twenty fragrant outward-facing broad funnel-shaped white flowers. Each petal is five to eight cm long and has a yellow base.
Unlike other lilies, Lilium candidum should be planted very shallowly, just a few centimeters of soil over the bulb is sufficient. The first leaves often appear in the fall and remain green in winter. Historically, this bulb was also used as perfume.
Each flower stem can carry 10 to 20 flowers.
