Blue grape hyacinths a dull flower? Not at all, thanks to new cultivars, the family continues to grow, and this is one such exclusive new multicolored beauty. Registered in 2018
The lower opened flowers start ice blue, above them the flowers are light blue while the buds at the top are fresh green.
Where blue grape hyacinths are, you will find bees and bumblebees! The blue flowers of the Muscari, which resemble clusters of mini-grapes, provide plenty of pollen and nectar in April and May.
Blue grape hyacinths don’t ask much from you. You can plant them almost anywhere: in the border, under trees and shrubs, in rock gardens. The bulbs should be planted in the fall between September and November. After they have bloomed in the spring, you can leave the bulbs in the ground. They multiply, so you will see more and more appear year after year.
The scientific name is Muscari, but it is better known as 'blue grape hyacinths'. It contains over 60 species and originally comes from the Mediterranean region, Central and Southern Europe, North Africa, and Central and Southwestern Asia. The blue grape is now also found in Northern Europe and the United States. The name Muscari comes from the Greek, moschos, musk and refers to the scent.
Do you have no garden, but a terrace or balcony? Most species are suitable for pots, but the one most commonly used here is Muscari armeniacum.
Do you like to see striking colors in your garden? Then plant groups of at least 25 blue grape hyacinths close together.
Do you love a cheerful mix? Then combine blue grape hyacinths with, for example, Eastern anemone (Anemone blanda).
